Do you love shopping? I really loved to a few years ago, but know I notice that I’m not into it any more. For the past years I’ve created some habits that allow me to cut my shopping time and a list of very few stores I actually visit. I buy specific products from each and I’m out, quick and effective way to eat healthy, which I recommend to you all.
To make things even easier, I have a shopping list, that will help you do the transition. The rules are simple – if it’s on the list – you can buy it, if it’s not…
So, what do we have here:
Fruits & vegetables – as long as they are fresh, frozen or dried without sugar, you can have them. Try sticking to the “in season & local” ones, if it’s possible.
Fats & oils – everything extra virgin and cold pressed is good for you. The ground rules here are: use the vegetable oils in their raw form and heat only the animal ones and the coconut oil. Absolutely no trans fats, refined oils, margarine, etc.
Herbs, spices and seasonings – all the clean herbs and mixes are good for you, just make sure the mix is made only from herbs and spices. The salt is stone one, like himalayan, sea salt and with low sodium (if you have high blood pressure). Tamari, instead of soya sauce and pure vinegar like apple or rice one, and home made lemon juice.
Nuts & seeds – everything in their raw form, including the nut oils and butters.
Sweeteners – use the natural ones like stevia, raw honey, maple syrup, blackstrap molasses, brown rice syrup and dates. Avoid white sugar at all costs and try to limit your sweet tooth.
Legumes – always buy them raw and cook at home.
Fish & meat - buy only wild fish and organic meat, if possible. If you really have the need of eating meat at all, buy the real deal, no salami, sausages and etc mixes that nobody knows what’s in them.
Grains – always whole and home made. If you want to buy bread, pasta or crackers from the store – go for the small boutique bakeries, that can guarantee you quality. Otherwise, just skip it.
Dairy, soya and eggs – from all the dairy kingdom enjoy only the fermented ones like yogurt, kefir and old cheeses. Milks should be made from organic soy, rice, coconut or nuts. Eggs from free-range hens.
Drinks – water, of course is your top drink. The other store bought drinks are green tea, herb tea and organic coffee. That’s it. Nothing else :))

My best tip for you: Never wander around the store aimlessly! Buy what you came in for and go out. The less time you spend in there, the less chance to buy something you do not need. And always bring your shopping list with you.
