I’m sure lots of you have heard about superfoods, some of you may even take some already. But if you don’t, here I will make a list of the superfoods I’m taking and will explain why :)
Spirulina – one of the most powerful green alga superfoods, consumed for thousand of years in Africa and Mexico.
Why I’m taking it? – It’s one of the highest known protein sources on Earth and contains 70% complete protein, towering over steak which consists of only 25% protein once cooked. So, if you don’t eat meat or if you don’t eat it every day, you know what to do to supply your body with the needed proteins. The spirulina is also rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 , vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A, and vitamin E. And contains calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, selenium, sodium, zinc, phosphorus, chromium and potassium. All of the above needed from your body every single day to be healthy.
Spirulina taking options – as a powder or as pills. I personally prefer the pills. I tried the powder, mixed it with my smoothies, mixed it with water, but can’t make myself to like the taste of it, so I stopped torturing myself and started taking the pills.
Chia seeds – another ancient superfood. As I continue to dig in the healthy world I realize that our ancestors knew how to live :)
Why I’m taking it? – Chia seeds are the richest vegetables source for the essential omega-3 fatty acid. It is also rich in proteins, calcium and many more. But the best thing about chia seeds is that they absorb more then 12 times their weight when mixed with water or when they are in your stomach making these little seeds the dieters dream food. First of all they make you feel full, thus limiting the cravings for junk food. They literally take the calories away from your food and help you digestion system work properly.
Chia seeds in your every day meal – just add a pinch of seeds over your salad or meal and eat it :) Or you can make some creams, smoothies, etc.
Raw cacao – raw cacao beans contain possibly the world’s most concentrated source of antioxidants found in any food. They are also extremely high in magnesium which has been found to be the most common deficient major mineral even following a balanced diet. For those concerned with not getting enough iron it should be pleasing to know that one small 28 gram serving of raw cacao beans gives 314% of the recommended daily allowance of iron. And if that is not enough raw cacao beans have an antioxidant (ORAC) score of 95,500. To put that into perspective, that is 14 times more flavonoids (antioxidants) than red wine and 21 times more than green tea. Voila! :)
Coconut oil - for which the Pacific islanders deem coconut oil to be the cure-all gift from nature for all illness…
Why I’m taking it? – I use coconut oil mainly for cooking, because it is the only one known oil that don’t change it’s characteristics when heated and the only one that doesn’t become cancerogenic when heated. It also speeds up your metabolism and make you loose weight. And it is known as anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal agent.
Propolis & honey – both strengthening our immune system. Also propolis is known as the best nature’s antibiotic preventing us from viruses all year long. I personally take propolis only during the winter months for 3 years now, and guess what… I haven’t been ill for the last 3 years now, even when everybody around me are super ill :)
Himalayan salt – or the purest salt on earth coming from rocks.
Why I’m taking it? – This salt is pure, unpolluted, without environmental impact. And it has the world’s highest elemental content with 84 of the nutritional elements we need. Just change your table salt with this one, it’s as easy as that :)
